Craig and Laura purchased the company in 1994 and together have grown and moulded the company to what it is today – a family based company with the philosophy of our family caring for your family.
Craig began funeral directing in Wanganui in 1987 and is Wanganui’s only funeral director who holds the National Diploma in Funeral Service. He is known for his ability to interpret family’s needs and provide a fitting and personalised farewell.
(NZ Cert Funeral Directing) Laura was born and raised in Wanganui and is married to Craig. Laura began funeral directing in Wanganui in 1994 and is Wanganui’s only qualified female funeral director.
Laura has enriched and developed the company’s high level of understanding of our bereaved families which is respectful to their cultural and emotional needs.
Michelle was born and raised in Wanganui. Upon leaving school she joined the the staff at Cleveland Funeral Home. She is the first of the 2nd generation of the Cleveland family to join the company. Michelle was a full time funeral director until she left to be a mother and had her son Kaiden in 2010. She has returned to work in her new role as part time funeral director and office administrator.
Rhys was born and raised in Wanganui and is Craig and Laura’s youngest son. Rhys joined the family business in November 2008 as a funeral director and embalmer. He graduated with his Diploma in embalming in November 2013. Rhys' specialty is in the preparation and presentation of families loved ones, a roll in which he takes great pride.
Jonathon was born and raised in Wanganui, after finishing his education at Wanganui High School he joined the New Zealand Army Band where he travelled extensively throughout New Zealand and the world and was a member of four national youth brass bands. Jonathon has retained his interest in music and is a member of Brass Wanganui, and president of the Wanganui Communnity Choir along with numerous other musical groups in the city. After being a funeral director in Wanganui for over four years now Jonathon is committed to continuing to serve the people of Wanganui.
John was born and raised in New Plymouth. After working in Hannahs stores in Stratford, Napier, Palmerston North and Hamilton he moved with his family to Wanganui in 1989. It was a homecoming for his wife and they raised their family in Brunswick on the family property. He has been involved in the Wanganui Boys and Girls Gym Club, and is currently an active member of the Westmere Miniature Rifle Club and Sailing Wanganui.
John has worked for Kmart, then Noel Leeming in Wanganui before starting a 17 year career with Vodafone. He owned the Vodafone store in Wanganui for many years before joining the Clevelands team in August 2014.
Craig and Laura Cleveland are pleased to introduce Monique Collins. Moni has joined Cleveland Funeral Home after working for the last three years at a funeral home in Hawera. Moni is an experienced embalmer and funeral director. She was born and raised in Wanganui where she attended Wanganui Intermediate School and Wanganui Girls College. Craig, Laura, Rhys, Michelle, and Jonathon are excited to have Moni come aboard as a part of the Cleveland Family.
